파키스탄 국립외국어대학교는 10월 9일 한글날 행사를 오전 9:30에 개최하였습니다. 동 행사에는 Zia Uddin Najam 국립외국어대학교 총장 및 교직원, 송종환 주 파키스탄 대사, 김인국 영사, 한국어과 및 세종학당 학생, Daily Times, Pakistan Observer, Centerline지 기자 등이 함께 참석하여 한글날 행사를 성황리에 마쳤습니다.

Najam 총장은 한국정부와 주 파키스탄 대사관의 협조로 한국어과가 많이 발전했음을 높이 평가하면서, 2016년에는 한국어과가 학위과정이 가능한 정식학과가 되도록 지원 하겠다고 공개적으로 약속하였습니다.

이번 한글날 행사에서는 한글 관련 다큐멘터리 시청 외에도 학생들의 K-Pop 무대, 김밥 만들기 행사 등 한국을 특정 짓는 음식 및 K-Pop 프로그램을 가미하여 참가자들의 만족도가 높았습니다.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,
As-Salaam-o-Alaikum, Good Morning,
First of all I would like to thank NUML rector, General Zia Uddin Najam, for his kind words and his continued support to the Korean Department.
I would also like to appreciate the efforts of Professor Atif Faraz, who has been a real pioneer in spreading the Korean language in Islamabad.
Most importantly, I would like to congratulate the students on a wonderful show. I am really impressed by your performance and your skills.
I am very happy that I got the opportunity to meet you on 2nd October at the seminar on Gandhara and Korean Buddhist Culture and I am meeting you again today.
As you know, today is Hangul Proclamation Day in which Korea celebrates the invention of Korean alphabet characters by King Sejong in 1446. This allowed the common people of Korea to learn how to read and write, and become educated, which played a great role in the progress of Korean civilization.
My dear students, I would like to share some recent Korean history with you. The Republic of Korea rose above the ordeals of partition, war and absolute poverty and went on to achieve industrialization and democratization within five decades and became one of the top 15 economies in the world. From the end of World War II till now about 140 countries have gained independence. Of all these countries, Korea was the first to change from an aid recipient country to a donor country in 2010.
Korean per capita income in 1960 was less than $80. Now Korean per capita income is more than twenty-eight thousand dollars! Korea’s trade volume has been more than one trillion dollars since 2011. This progress is called the ‘Miracle of the Han River’.
It is my wish to see a similar ‘Miracle of the Indus River’ in Pakistan. And you, my dear students, must be the agents of change in Pakistan. As you study the Korean language here, you must be the ambassadors of Korea in Pakistan. You must study hard and improve your skills so that you can become the leaders in your field.
It is a great joy to hear that the Korean speaking students of NUML have a bright future.
