9.22 송종환 주파키스탄대사는 파키스탄에 진출한 “대우파키스탄고속버스(주)”의 라호르 Defense Housing Authority(DHA) 신규 터미널 개소식 행사에 참석, 축하와 격려를 하였습니다.

파키스탄 최초로 대우건설이 1997년 이슬라마바드-라호르 400여km 구간 고속도로 건설 후 대우그룹은 해체되었지만 한·파 관계의 상징인 동 고속도로를 대우파키스탄고속버스(주)가 파키스탄 기업과 컨소시업을 구성하여 운영하고 있습니다.

이번 DHA 터미널 행사는 대우파키스탄고속버스(주)가 파키스탄내 144개 도시에서 운영 중인 고속 및 시내버스의 사업 확장 을 축하하는 것으로서
송 대사와 파키스탄 라호르지역 Naweed Zaman Khan 군 사령관(중장), 우리 진출기업 대표 및 DHA 지역 주면 대표들이 참석한 가운데 성황리에 개최되었습니다.

송 대사는 우리 대우파키스탄고속버스(주) 터미널 신규 개소를 통해, DHA 거주민과 라호르 지역 주민들의 생활에 큰 편익을 줄 수 있게 된 것을 기쁘게 생각한다고 하면서, 우리 기업들과 파키스탄 경제가 다함께 발전해 나갈 수 것을 당부하였습니다.

And distinguished guests,
As-salaam-o-Alaikum and Good Evening
It is my pleasure to be present at this momentous occasion of the inauguration of Daewoo-DHA Project. This surely is a landmark initiative and the Daewoo-DHA management deserve a lot of credit for their efforts in providing world class transport facilities and other services to DHA residents. Effective transport systems are integral to any country’s economic growth and prosperity. Well-planned roads infrastructure and efficient transport systems played a very vital role in the remarkable economic growth which the Republic of Korea achieved over the last few decades.
While Korea ranks among the top economies in the world today, its transport and roads infrastructure is also considered to be one of the best. Providing the best transport facilities, both intra-city and inter-city, to DHA residents and visitors is, therefore, an excellent initiative of DHA management and a step in the right direction.
Pakistan and Korea enjoy cordial relations which are deep-rooted in history. Over the years, the relations between the two countries have become even stronger with development of ties in political, economic, trade, cultural, military and educational fields. Many prominent Korean conglomerates, such as Lotte Group, K-Water, Sambu, Daewoo, Hyundai Motors, and SsangYong have been working in Pakistan for many years. Korean consumer electronics giants like Samsung and LG are household names in Pakistan for many years with mobile phones, televisions, and other electrical goods reaching almost every home in Pakistan.
I am proud that Pakistan’s biggest ever highway project, Lahore-Islamabad Motorway was also carried out successfully by a Korean Company, Daewoo Corporation, a subsidiary of which, Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Limited, revolutionized bus travel in Pakistan. Over the years Daewoo Express Bus Service Limited has become the largest road transport company in Pakistan. I am happy to see that it has now entered into an agreement with DHA Lahore to execute this milestone project. I am sure Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service will now transform transportation within DHA and give a new dimension to public services in Lahore.
Being the best service in Pakistan is an excellent achievement but I hope that you will have a higher vision and achieve greater goals.
I told Mr. Shaheryar Chishty, CEO of Daewoo Express a true story when he visited my office for the first time in 2013. I would like to share this with all my Pakistani friends:
A Korean man, Choong Hoon Cho, started a bus company called Hanjin while doing business in Vietnam in the 1960s. He ran his bus business so well that he became very rich. He then used the money and skill gained from running buses to expand his business. In 1969 Choong Hoon Cho established Korean Air and in 1977 he established Hanjin Shipping. Today Korean Air has a fleet of 153 planes. So you see, it would be true to say that ‘sky is the limit’ for you. It is my wish to see that you also grow so successful like the Hanjin Group with the cooperation of Koreans.
I would like to congratulate the DHA Management headed by Administrator DHA, Brig. Zafar Yasin Babar, under the progressive leadership of the Honourable President DHA, Lt. General Naweed Zaman Khan.
In the end I would like to thank Mr. Shaheryar Chishty, CEO Daewoo Express and Mr. Changin Park, President, Daewoo Express for inviting me to this auspicious occasion and coordinating my participation in this historic ceremony. I sincerely hope and pray that the Daewoo-DHA collaboration becomes a huge success and paves the way for a more development in Defence Housing Authority, Lahore.
